How to Play Using a VT100 Terminal |
| When you first enter the game you will be located in the "holding area." Your position is shown on the map (upper left-hand corner of the screen) by a Y, the STAT command will give you a summary of information about your character. You can move around by typing N, S, E, and W (note how the Y on the map moves as you tell it to). Inside the holding area there are stores (the S on the map) that contain equipment for you to BUY and WEAR. | |
| Every player begins with a beginner paintball (with 30 paintballs) and a woodlands camo vest. Aim-and-fire the shooter using the TAR and FIRE commands. Your woodlands camo vest will conceal you if you stand in either forests (!) or jungles (&). You are fully concealed so long as you do not move or fire. Doing either will make you momentarily visible. | |
| Games are arranged to start a few minutes after the previous game ends. To find out how long before the next game starts or the current game ends, use the GAME command. The game will warn you one minute before a game begins. When a game starts, everyone that has joined the game, will be teleported to some other place on the map (typically within 25 spaces of someone else who is playing). You will then be able to earn points by splatting other players (*). There are also non-player "Bots" (o) that are in the game as well. You will also get points for surviving until the end of the game (if you splat someone). The surviving players all get money, with the most money going to the top two survivors. The amount of money depends upon how many played the game and how many survived. | |

Various VT100 Terminal for Windows |
| CommNet works correctly if you go to Setup/Preferences and set the Local Echo and Backspace sends CTRL-H check boxes. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to support color. | |
| NetTerm does color correctly, but if you turn on Local Echo so you can see what you are typing, it messes up the text display. | |
| Ewan works ok, but doesn't support color. To get it to work just right, you'll need to first create a connection for PBN, then go into the Options menu and select Configuration, a dialog box will pop up. Now select the Behaviour button, make sure Send nothing is selected, then hit OK. Select "Emulation options", and uncheck the "map CR to CR/LF" then hit OK. Now Ewan should be set up correctly to connect to Paintball Net. |
